Ethereum Proposes Reducing Validator Rewards to Prevent Excessive Staking

Ethereum developers have proposed a plan to gradually reduce validator rewards as more of the cryptocurrency is staked. The proposal, known as EIP-8361, introduces a reward burn mechanism that increases the burn rate of validator rewards as staking rises. This aims to prevent excessive incentives for staking beyond half of the total ETH supply.

The proposed 18-month phased implementation would start with a temporary boost in rewards before tapering off to zero issuance at the 50% staking threshold. This plan will be reviewed by the Ethereum community before being included in a future network upgrade.
