Ethereum Quantum Security Leaps Forward with ML-DSA-44 Optimization
Ethereum's quantum security has just taken a significant leap forward with a major breakthrough in post-quantum signature verification. Fireblocks, a leading blockchain infrastructure provider, announced an optimized EVM implementation of ML-DSA-44, a lattice-based signature scheme compliant with NIST's FIPS 204 standard.
The new implementation slashes the verification cost to just 1.23 million gas, down from the previous state-of-the-art benchmark of 8.09 million gas set by ZKNox's ETHDILITHIUM project - a staggering 6.6x reduction without any changes to the Ethereum protocol itself.
The optimization was made possible through targeted bottlenecks in SHAKE-256 hashing, number theoretic transform (NTT) computations, and memory expansion techniques within the EVM.
