Ethereum Rally Fuels Bitmine's Balance Sheet Growth Amid AI Hype
Bitmine (BMNR) has seen its balance sheet surge by $2.2 billion following a 20% price increase in Ethereum, according to the company's latest operational report.
The value of Bitmine's ETH portfolio rose from $11 billion at the start of the week to $13.2 billion due to the recent price hike. This represents nearly 4.8% of the total circulating supply of Ethereum.
Bitmine has been actively purchasing ETH every week for over a year, with 87% of its reserves already staked. This generates approximately $250 million in fixed annual income through staking rewards.
However, despite this growth, Bitmine's overall portfolio still holds a global unrealized loss of $6.09 billion, or 31.25%. This is due to the company having invested a total of $19.49 billion in ETH at an average purchase price of $3,357.63.
Tom Lee, chairman of Bitmine and co-founder of Fundstrat, believes that Ethereum's breakout from its multiyear downtrend against Bitcoin represents a fundamental shift in how the cryptocurrency is perceived by Wall Street. He sees ETH as becoming the operating system for AI agents, with its utility value being priced into the market.
