Ethereum Researchers Rush to Close ZkEVM Security Gap
Ethereum researchers are working to close a security gap in zkEVM before December 2026.
The gap, known as koalaIRS12, is a fixed parameter profile for an interleaved Reed-Solomon reduction used in proof-system research.
A challenge called better.codes measures the distance between what the challenge has proved safe and what its upper certificate still rules unsafe.
The current lower certificate stands at 63.99 bits, while the upper certificate is at 116.13 bits, leaving a 52.14-bit interval unresolved.
