Ethereum Researchers Seek to Taper Issuance with New Staking Rewards Proposal
Ethereum researchers have proposed a draft proposal to change how much ETH is issued to validators as staking participation rises. The 'Tapered Issuance Burn' would burn a portion of validators' consensus rewards once the amount of staked ETH approaches a preset threshold.
The proposal, labeled EIP-8363, aims to address dilution pressures from high staking incentives and make supply growth more predictable. It would set a clear mechanism: as staking ratio rises toward a fixed target, validators would see a larger share of their consensus rewards redirected into a burn.
Critics argue that the reward taper could push out solo validators earlier than larger staking entities, making it harder for smaller participants to operate in the network. Some developers have also raised concerns about process and timing, citing the need for thorough review of such a significant change to monetary policy.
