Ethereum Roadmap Shifts Focus to Quantum Resistance and Native Rollups
Ethereum's development roadmap has been revised to prioritize quantum-computing defenses and native rollups.
The changes come after Vitalik Buterin stated that the plan had shifted substantially from its 2023 version, with security against attacks from quantum computers and privacy technologies now taking center stage.
Some technologies initially included in earlier roadmaps have been downgraded or replaced, including verifiable delay functions (VDFs) and some EVM-related development plans.
New core development areas include native rollups, which would allow Ethereum to support rollups through built-in functionality; a structure for trading data storage space and gas costs in advance; quantum-resistant signatures; and a new state storage model.
