A new institution-focused stablecoin, OpenUSD (OUSD), is set to debut on the Ethereum blockchain. Backed by over 140 companies including Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, BlackRock, and BNY Mellon, OUSD aims to provide a stable digital asset that meets the compliance, security, and liquidity requirements of large financial entities.

The consortium backing OUSD includes some of the most influential names in global finance and payments. Visa and Mastercard bring payment network expertise, while Stripe contributes online payment infrastructure. BlackRock and BNY Mellon add credibility from the asset management and custody sides.

Ethereum remains the dominant smart contract platform for tokenized assets and stablecoins. Its extensive developer ecosystem and established standards make it a natural choice for a stablecoin targeting institutional adoption.
