Ethereum Sets Sights on Quantum-Resistance with Hegotá Roadmap

The Ethereum Foundation has outlined a roadmap for the Hegotá upgrade, which aims to strengthen the network's censorship resistance, transaction flexibility, and long-term security. The foundation has ranked 62 EIPs (Ethereum Improvement Proposals) as candidates for inclusion in the Hegotá upgrade, with FOCIL (Fork-Choice Enforced Inclusion Lists) and Frame Transactions earning S-tier status.

The main goal of the Hegotá upgrade is to make Ethereum fully quantum-resistant by December 2029. The foundation wants to strengthen the network's Layer 1 to become fully quantum-resistant, which aligns with migration targets set by major technology companies including Google, Microsoft, and Cloudflare.

The two 'must-ship' proposals, FOCIL and Frame Transactions, are expected to be prioritized even if timelines need to be adjusted. FOCIL aims to strengthen Ethereum's censorship resistance by giving users a guaranteed path to include eligible transactions without relying on block builders, while Frame Transactions introduces a new transaction structure that separates authorization, fee payment, and execution.

Outside of the two 'must-ship' proposals, 15 are expected to ship while 28 were declined. The remaining proposals will be reconsidered based on testing results and available development capacity.
