Ethereum Slows Down Mainnet Upgrade Amid Technical Complexity
Ethereum's development team has pushed back the target timeline for the next mainnet upgrade, Glamsterdam, to late 2026. This decision reflects the increasing difficulty of coordinating network-wide upgrades on Ethereum, which processes billions of dollars in transactions daily.
The revised schedule gives developers additional time to test on the newly launched Platåberget public testnet, the first of several testing phases before Glamsterdam reaches mainnet.
As part of this cautious approach, core developers are also reviewing 66 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) proposed for Hegotá, the upgrade following Glam amsterdam. The goal is to finalize priority candidates by the end of this month.
