Ethereum Smashes Blob Usage Record, Hits 6.7 Per Block Average

The Ethereum network has set a new record for blob usage, reaching an average of 6.7 blobs per block over three days.

This milestone was reported by Trent Van Epps, a former member of the Ethereum Foundation and organizer of Protocol Guild, on September 3.

Blobs are temporary storage spaces introduced by the Dencun upgrade in 2024, used by rollups like Arbitrum and Optimism to publish transactions on the Ethereum main chain.

The record blob usage exceeds previous peaks observed at the end of 2025, with current activity representing only 40-50% of the network's targeted capacity of 14 blobs per block.
