Ethereum Staking Hits Record High as Institutional Investment Surges
Bitwise has released its quarterly staking report for Q3 2026, showing that Ethereum (ETH) staking has reached a historic high. According to the report, 40.2 million ETH have been staked, accounting for 33% of total circulating supply.
This is a significant milestone in the growth of institutional involvement in Ethereum staking. The majority of new staking this year comes from institutions, including staking ETFs, corporate treasuries, and other large holders.
Other notable findings in the report include high staking rates on various networks, with Solana at 68%, Near at 45%, Hyperliquid at 44%, and Avalanche at 41%. Additionally, Ethereum's throughput increased by 73% year-on-year, while Avalanche's trading volume reached four times that of the same period last year.
The report also highlights the expanding presence of institutional staking in emerging Proof-of-Stake (PoS) networks. Recently, an exchange and Circle each staked 500,000 HYPE on Hyperliquid, indicating a growing trend of institutional investment in these new networks.
