Ethereum Staking Overhaul Proposal Sparks Decentralization Concerns
A proposal to overhaul Ethereum's staking economics has sparked a heated debate within the community. The proposed EIP-8363 would change how consensus-layer rewards are treated as the amount of ETH participating in staking increases.
The basic idea is to introduce a mechanism that burns a portion of validator rewards and increases that burn as the staking ratio rises, reducing the incentive for an ever-larger percentage of ETH supply to become staked.
Critics argue that this could weaken incentives for independent validators and make Ethereum's staking ecosystem more dependent on large operators, institutional custodians, and liquid-staking providers.
