Ethereum Staking Rewards Proposal Sparks Controversy Over Unpredictability
A proposal aimed at reducing staking rewards on Ethereum has sparked controversy among community members. EIP-8361, also known as the 'Tapered Issuance Burn,' would gradually burn an increasing share of consensus layer validator rewards as Ethereum's staking ratio climbs.
The proposal, put forward by Jérôme de Tychey and Justin Drake from the Ethereum Foundation, aims to introduce a mechanism that would eventually reach 100% burn, meaning zero net issuance from staking, once total staked ETH reaches approximately 60.25 million ETH.
Aave founder Stani Kulechov has come out against the proposal, arguing that changing the rules on validator rewards introduces unpredictability that could undermine borrowing strategies and deter institutional interest in Ethereum.
