Ethereum Staking Surges to New Heights: Centralization Risks Loom Large
Ethereum's staking participation has reached an all-time high, with over a third of the total supply now locked up. The figure stands at 47.36 million ETH, worth approximately $147 billion at current prices. This marks a significant increase from two years ago, when only 10.9% of the supply was staked.
The rapid growth in staking participation is attributed to the Ethereum network's transition to proof-of-stake consensus mechanism in September 2022. This switch brought several benefits, including faster and cheaper transactions, as well as a significant reduction in energy consumption.
However, experts are now raising concerns about centralization risks and reduced liquidity. As more ETH gets locked up, it could impact market dynamics, leading to increased volatility or upward pressure on prices.
