Ethereum Staking Yield Cut Proposed in New Proposal: EIP-8363
Ethereum's staking debate has shifted from attracting validators to paying them too much. The network has seen 41.9 million ETH staked, representing about 34% to 35% of its supply.
A proposal called EIP-8363, or 'Tapered Issuance Burn,' would burn an increasing share of validator rewards as more ETH is staked. This would not change how validators earn rewards initially but reduce the yield available from the same balance sheet.
The proposal's authors argue that Ethereum's existing issuance curve compounds the trend of declining validator yields. EIP-8363 attempts to break this feedback loop, where institutional staking becomes easier, encouraging more holders to enter staking simply to avoid losing relative ownership of the network.
