Ethereum Stalls at $1,900 as 100-Day EMA Looms Overhead
Ethereum has been relatively calm amidst market turmoil this week. As of Thursday morning, it is trading at $1,900, a level that keeps it above both the 50-day EMA and SuperTrend line. However, the 100-day EMA at approximately $1,932 looms overhead and has thus far remained unbreached.
According to historical data, every time Ethereum has approached this threshold, progress stalled. The 200-day EMA is even higher, at around $2,166, but feels out of reach given current market conditions.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) on the daily chart stands at 57, a relatively favorable reading for Ethereum in recent months. Yet, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) has slipped into negative territory with a soft bearish cross, which often prompts caution among traders rather than decisive action.
Ethereum's price did experience a minor uptick following the Fed's decision to maintain interest rates between 3.50% and 3.75%. However, Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh emphasized the central bank's commitment to returning inflation to its target rate of 2%, with three dissenting members advocating for an immediate hike.
The situation remains volatile, particularly given overnight US strikes on southern Iran, which has pushed oil prices above $82 and sent sentiment across crypto into a fragile state. ETH now sits between the 50-day EMA at $1,848 and the 100-day EMA, waiting for a catalyst to tip the balance.
