Ethereum Surges on Regulatory Optimism, Institutional Demand
Ethereum has surged by approximately 3% in the last 8 hours due to a combination of positive regulatory developments, renewed institutional and ETF demand for ETH, and a technical breakout above key resistance.
The US regulatory environment has shifted positively for crypto, particularly Ethereum. The SEC proposed a dedicated Regulation Crypto Assets regime, allowing qualifying projects to raise up to $75M per year under tailored exemptions, with a safe-harbor concept for tokens that 'graduate' out of investment-contract status.
Several major US wealth platforms have recently added Ethereum to their model portfolios, typically at 1-4% crypto allocations that explicitly include ETH. Multiple market recaps highlight net inflows into spot ETH ETFs over the last couple of sessions.
The technical breakout is also a significant factor in Ethereum's recent surge. The chart has been coiling just below resistance around 1,900-1,920, with multiple references to a 'pre-breakout squeeze' and 'tight consolidation' near 1,900. A push above roughly $1,986-2,000 would unlock higher targets.
