Ethereum Surges Past $1,900 as Crypto Market Defies Weak Sentiment
The cryptocurrency market has seen a slight uptick in value today, August 17. Despite Glassnode's report that consumer confidence has dropped to an all-time low, Bitcoin (BTC) is trading at $63,500 and Ethereum (ETH) has reclaimed the $1,900 mark.
Ethereum's price surge comes despite a weak market sentiment, with some analysts attributing it to increasing buying pressure. On the other hand, PumpFun (PUMP) and Hyperliquid (HYPE) are defying this trend with over 3% gains in value.
The total crypto market cap has gained by only 0.98% to $2.18 trillion at the time of writing. However, derivatives volumes have surged 72% after a weekend slump, with Bitcoin's futures volumes on Binance standing at $7.04 billion and Ethereum's volumes at $5.26 billion.
Ethereum needs to close above the resistance at $1,917 to confirm that bulls have a good grip. If it fails to do so, the price could drop to the lower Bollinger band at $1,867.
