Ethereum Surges to Two-Month High on U.S. Macro Liquidity Measures
Ethereum's price has broken through its two-month high, reaching an intraday high of $2,112 on August 19. This surge in value was largely driven by macroeconomic liquidity measures in the United States, specifically the doubling of the government bond buyback program to $4 billion.
The impact of this announcement was immediate, with Ethereum's market capitalization increasing from under $230 billion to over $251 billion in a matter of hours. The rally sparked by Ethereum's price increase also had a ripple effect on other altcoins, with the combined market capitalization of these assets crossing the $1 trillion mark for the first time in nearly a month.
Zcash (ZEC) was among the top performers, gaining 9% and reaching a peak of $557. Other high-cap tokens like Solana (SOL) and XRP also recorded gains exceeding 6%. Market analyst Michaël van de Poppe noted that Ethereum's current chart structure could be considered a significant technical breakout, with potential targets at $2,250, $2,465, and an extended target at $2,900 if the price holds above the $2,000 support level.
