Ethereum Surpasses 180M Wallets, Leaves Bitcoin Trail Behind
Ethereum's user base has reached new heights, surpassing all other major blockchains in terms of adoption. According to on-chain analytics firm Santiment, Ethereum now boasts 182.74 million non-empty wallets, a figure that is more than three times the count on the Bitcoin network.
This milestone marks a significant achievement for Ethereum, which has been rapidly expanding its user base over the past decade. The smart-contract platform's unique functionality, which supports a broad ecosystem of decentralized finance applications and tokens, has drawn users who interact with multiple protocols rather than simply holding a single asset.
Ethereum surpassed Bitcoin in this metric back in 2019, but since then, it has accelerated to an all-time high. In comparison, the Bitcoin network trails behind at 58.51 million addresses. Other major cryptocurrencies such as Tether (USDT), Dogecoin (DOGE), XRP (XRP), USDC (USDC), and Cardano (ADA) also lag far behind Ethereum in terms of user adoption.
The structural advantage of Ethereum's smart-contract functionality has compounded over time, pushing its address count into territory no other chain has reached. This lead is widely attributed to the platform's ability to support a wide range of decentralized finance applications and tokens.
