Ethereum Surpasses Bitcoin in Multi-Year Trend Shift
Tom Lee, Chairman of BitMine, recently commented on the Ethereum (ETH) to Bitcoin (BTC) ratio breaking above a multi-year downtrend. According to him, this shift indicates that markets are pricing in tokenization and agentic-AI demand for Ethereum.
The ETH/BTC ratio measures Ethereum's performance relative to Bitcoin, with a rising ratio often interpreted as improving relative demand for Ethereum. Lee has pointed out that the ratio has risen during crypto bull cycles, driven by various factors such as initial coin offerings (ICOs), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and stablecoins.
Lee specifically mentioned Wall Street settling assets onchain and agentic AI, which he believes should benefit Ethereum. The ETH/BTC ratio has reached 0.02994 and is considered a sign that markets are materializing tokenization and agentic-AI applications.
BitMine holds approximately 5.8 million ETH, worth around $11 billion at the current price of $1,902. However, the company's Ethereum purchases have slowed down significantly, with only 9,926 ETH added last week compared to a weekly average of 59,998 ETH over 43 weeks.
BitMine has instead reallocated capital into share buybacks, with 1.7 million shares repurchased last week and 20.8 million since July 1. This is considered the largest buyback executed by any crypto digital asset treasury.
