Ethereum Surpasses Bitcoin in User Adoption with Record 182M Wallets
Ethereum has surpassed Bitcoin in user adoption, with over three times as many non-empty wallets. According to on-chain analytics firm Santiment, Ethereum now holds a record 182.74 million wallets, while Bitcoin trails behind at 58.51 million.
This milestone marks a significant achievement for the smart-contract platform, which has outpaced every other major blockchain in user adoption over the past decade. Ethereum's trajectory dwarfs that of its competitors, with the network growing its holder base at an impressive rate.
The gap between Ethereum and Bitcoin is substantial, with Tether (USDT) holding third place with 12.96 million addresses. Other prominent cryptocurrencies such as Dogecoin (DOGE), XRP (XRP), USDC (USDC), and Cardano (ADA) also lag behind in terms of user adoption.
Ethereum's lead is attributed to its smart-contract functionality, which supports a broad ecosystem of decentralized finance applications and tokens. This structural advantage has allowed Ethereum to compound its growth over time, pushing its address count into uncharted territory.
