Ethereum Tackles Quantum Computing Threat with New Cryptography Plan
Ethereum is working on a new plan to combat the quantum computing threat. A proposal called EIP-8288 aims to reduce the cost of advanced cryptography on the network.
The current system for verifying post-quantum signatures and STARK proofs is too heavy, requiring between 150,000 to 200,000 gas units per verification. This could lead to expensive transactions and slow down the network.
EIP-8288 proposes a new method that groups thousands of individual verifications into a single proof. This would reduce the cost of verifying these proofs and make them more scalable.
