Ethereum Targets Quantum-Resistant Layer 1 by 2029 with Hegota Upgrade
Ethereum has set an ambitious target to make its base layer quantum-resistant by December 2029. The Ethereum Foundation's Protocol Cluster is committed to achieving this goal, which covers all three major layers of the network: execution, consensus, and data.
The foundation has ranked 62 Hegota proposals and prioritized FOCIL (EIP-7805) and Frame Transactions (EIP-8141), giving them S-tier classification. These proposals aim to strengthen censorship resistance and bring native account abstraction to Ethereum.
The implementation of these proposals is a crucial step towards making Ethereum's base layer quantum-resistant, but the foundation notes that it will take years to replace cryptographic infrastructure across the global blockchain.
