Ethereum Upgrade Brings Gas Fee Shift for New Addresses

Ethereum's upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade will change the way gas fees are calculated for basic ETH transfers. Currently, every transfer costs a flat 21,000 gas units. However, after the upgrade, sending ETH to a new address will require an additional 183,600 units of 'state gas' due to the need to create and store a new account.

This change breaks the assumption that many wallets and blockchain services have relied on, which could cause fee miscalculations or rejected transactions. Developers warn service providers to update their software before the upgrade reaches Ethereum's mainnet after testing on several test networks.
