Ethereum Upgrade Glamsterdam May Break Some Smart Contracts
The Ethereum network is preparing for an upgrade called Glamsterdam, which includes two key changes: EIP-8037 and EIP-8038. These updates will reprice gas costs for state creation and access, potentially causing issues with a small group of Layer 1 smart contracts.
Most contracts will remain unaffected, but those relying on fixed gas stipends or specific logic around gas usage may need to be updated to avoid compatibility problems.
Developers can test and fix any issues on the Platåberget testnet before the mainnet launch planned for Q4 2026.
