Ethereum Upgrade Glamsterdam Scheduled for October 6, 2026: What Stakers Need to Know

The Ethereum network is set for its next major upgrade, Glamsterdam, which will bring changes to both the consensus and execution layers. The upgrade has been scheduled for October 6, 2026, on the Sepolia test network. However, according to a recent survey of ten major Ethereum clients, none of them have a stable version with the upgrade in its name.

The work is ongoing in pre-releases and nightly test builds. For stakers, this means there's nothing to install at the moment. Updating now will gain nothing as the required version does not yet exist as a stable release.

Glamsterdam changes rules on both layers of the Ethereum protocol, requiring an update on both the execution client and consensus client. Staking providers will carry the task, but solo stakers should check their node's versions, update settings, disk space, and subscribe to release notes before the fork.
