Ethereum Upgrade Proposal Threatens Native Yield and Shifts SharpLink Strategy
A proposed Ethereum upgrade could drastically impact native yield and alter SharpLink's $125M treasury strategy. EIP-8363 would drive net consensus yield to zero at 60.25 million ETH staked, increasing reliance on variable fees, MEV, and DeFi returns.
SharpLink's corporate ETH treasury currently spans staking, trading, liquidity provision, and DeFi activities. However, with the proposed Ethereum upgrade, native issuance would become a smaller part of their return stack, placing more weight on execution income, strategy selection, and risk controls.
The planned Galaxy SharpLink Onchain Yield Fund, worth $125 million, aims to provide additional returns through DeFi deployments while adding smart-contract risks. The fund's status remains nonbinding, and its proposed commitments were not confirmed as funded or deployed.
