Ethereum Upgrade Sparks Gas Fee Overhaul
Ethereum's upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade is about to change the rules of gas fees for basic ETH transfers. Currently, sending ETH to any account incurs a flat 21,000 gas units cost.
However, with this new update, sending ETH to an entirely new address will require an additional 183,600 'state gas' units due to the need to create and store a new account.
This change breaks the assumption many wallets and blockchain services have relied on, which could cause fee miscalculations or rejected transactions.
Developers warn service providers to update their software before the upgrade reaches Ethereum's mainnet after testing on several test networks.
