Ethereum Validators Reject Staking Reward Cap Proposal
A proposal to cap staking rewards on Ethereum has been met with overwhelming rejection from validators. EIP-8361, which aims to reduce inflation by setting staking rewards at zero if more than 50% of ETH is staked, has seen a 99.7% 'No' vote in a community sentiment check.
The proposal's authors argue that it would help mitigate the impact of high inflation on Ethereum's store-of-value case. However, critics led by Aave CEO Stani Kulechov argue that lower staking rewards could damage ETH credit markets and encourage DeFi activity to move to other chains.
Kulechov criticized the Ethereum Foundation for what he sees as a 'ivory tower academic approach' disconnected from the needs of builders in the trenches. He also stated that the proposal would not help solo stakers.
