Ethereum vs Solana: Standard Chartered Sees Ethereum Outperforming in Next 12 Months
Standard Chartered, an institutional investor, is sticking to its prediction that Ethereum will outperform Solana over the next 12 months. The bank's digital assets research head, Geoffrey Kendrick, initially made this call in May 2025 and reaffirmed it at a conference in July. Kendrick's prediction has been accurate so far, with one Ether buying roughly 25 SOL today, up from 14 in 2025.
The delay of Ethereum's next big upgrade, Glamsterdam, is not seen as bearish for the chain. In fact, it may give Ethereum a boost when it launches in Q4 2026. Solana, on the other hand, is struggling to scale up and make foundational changes to its tokenomics and staking economics.
Solana's validators are voting on two proposals that would cut the pace for issuing new coins and lift daily coin burns. Ethereum has a comparable idea in one of its Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), EIP-8363, which would burn a rising share of validator rewards. If implemented, these changes could make both chains more attractive investments and boost their values.
However, the outcome is far from guaranteed. Historically, major overhauls have been rejected by those with voting power. Additionally, if Solana's proposals pass or Glamsterdam misses its launch window, the case for Ethereum outperforming it will weaken.
