Ethereum Welcomes Open USD Stablecoin Backed by Industry Giants
The Ethereum network has welcomed the launch of Open USD, a new stablecoin backed by a global consortium of over 140 companies. This includes major players in the financial and technology sectors such as Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, BlackRock, BNY, Coinbase, and Western Union.
Open USD is designed to operate natively on the Ethereum blockchain from its very first day of activity, leveraging a decentralized governance model to prevent revenue concentration within a single issuer. Profits generated by reserve assets will be distributed among ecosystem partners after deducting a management fee, with participating institutions able to issue and burn the token free of charge and without volume caps.
The decision to deploy on Ethereum reinforces the network's position in the corporate finance segment, currently hosting the largest portion of the tokenized U.S. Treasury bonds and digitized real-world assets market. Tom Lee, an analyst, indicates that Ethereum's adoption by Open USD serves as a validation of the network for the future of the global financial system.
