Ethereum Whales Awaken: $5M Transfer Sparks Selling Fears
A significant movement in Ethereum's on-chain data has been detected as four former whales linked to the early days of the network have awakened their wallets. The largest transfer, worth over $5 million, came from a Genesis wallet that had been inactive for eleven years. This wallet was initially acquired for approximately $830, but its value has grown by an impressive 605,924% since then.
The Genesis wallet transferred 2,680 ETH on August 11, while two other wallets had already moved 2,000 ETH each in July. The funds have joined exchange platforms like Coinbase and CoinJar, fueling fears of a possible massive sell-off. However, it's essential to note that these transfers do not necessarily indicate liquidation, as the funds could be changing custody or responding to financial decisions.
The movements of these historic reserves are particularly relevant, as they alter the reading of Ethereum's available supply. The pre-mined ETH from the early days of the network has been a topic of interest, with about 72 million units created before the blockchain launch. About 60 million units were allocated to buyers during a public sale, while the remaining balance was reserved for insiders.
The situation will depend on the behavior of these former Ether holders, and upcoming transfers will be a major indicator of their intentions. If the four addresses continue moving their reserves to exchange platforms, selling fears could intensify. Conversely, redistribution to private wallets would limit this interpretation.
