Ethereum's Ecosystem Booms as Layer 2 Networks Handle 94% of Transactions
Ethereum's ecosystem is experiencing significant growth, outperforming other major crypto sectors. According to trader Daan Crypto, Ethereum, Layer 2s (L2s), and DeFi tokens led the pack over the previous week, excluding smaller memecoins from the comparison.
This rotation has a fundamental backdrop: Ethereum's scaling networks now handle 94% of all transactions across the combined L1 and L2 ecosystem. The biggest difference is seen in transaction count, with L2s processing approximately 29.95 million per day compared to only 1.97 million on mainnet.
L2s also account for 97% of total Ethereum ecosystem throughput, processing roughly 92.4 million gas units per second versus 2.52 million on mainnet. The biggest networks are attracting more capital, with Base securing around $14.51 billion, or 41% of Ethereum L2 value, while Arbitrum holds roughly $12.47 billion.
The growth has spilled into token markets, with ARB surging over 120% after accelerating activity around Robinhood Chain. Inside DeFi, Ethereum L2s processed approximately 337 million transactions over the past 30 days, representing around 99% of combined Ethereum L1 and L2 DeFi transaction activity.
