Ethereum's EIP-8361 Proposal Draws Fire from Solo Stakers
Ethereum's EIP-8361 proposal has raised concerns among some members of the Ethereum community, including those involved in staking. The proposal aims to address issues related to node churn rate, but critics argue that it would negatively impact solo stakers.
According to Ebunker, only 2.4% of ETH Staking is currently active, with competitiveness lagging behind US Treasury bonds by more than half. For retail investors, the returns from solo staking are barely enough to cover costs, and may even result in a loss. Only die-hard fans continue to run Solo Staking.
If implemented, EIP-8361 would directly affect solo stakers, pushing them 'to the chopping block.' Institutional stakers, however, would not be impacted due to their larger volumes and fixed server costs.
The proposal has been likened to giving birth in a turbulent state, as it brings excessive risk to Ethereum. The author believes that tweaking the churn rate is unnecessary and can be achieved with a simple parameter change, which poses no risks.
