Ethereum's Glamsterdam Hard Fork Will Rewrite ETH Transfer Fees
The Ethereum Foundation is warning developers and users about an upcoming change to ETH transfer fees. The Glamsterdam hard fork will introduce a new fee structure that no longer assumes a fixed 21,000-gas cost for every transaction.
Transfers to existing addresses will still require 21,000 gas, but transfers to new addresses will incur an additional state gas fee of approximately 183,600 gas. This extra cost is due to the network's need to create and store new state data when a new address is used.
The change aims to align transaction fees more closely with the actual resources consumed by each transaction. However, this may cause issues for users who attempt to send ETH to a fresh wallet address without updating their wallets or services to account for the higher gas requirement.
