Ethereum's 'Glamsterdam' Upgrade Nears Completion with Testnet Progress
The Ethereum 'Glamsterdam' upgrade is nearing completion, with testnet progress being made. The final developer testnet, Devnet-8, was launched on August 13, and public testnet upgrades are expected to begin in September.
Kristin Kim, founder of Protocol Watch, stated that since there has been a significant change in the block building process, third-party block builders should test their infrastructure against the new protocol specifications starting now.
The block gas limit is also being discussed. Ethereum developers aim to increase the block size by more than threefold, and a related gas repricing proposal was confirmed this week. The network throughput can be increased from 60 million to 200 million without overburdening existing node operations after Glamsterdam.
Developers are also discussing lowering the rolling history expiry standard to 5-6 months due to the accelerated pace of history growth with the expected increase in gas limit.
