Ethereum's Glamsterdam Upgrade to Rewrite Block Building Logic

The Ethereum network is gearing up for its next major hard fork, dubbed Glamsterdam. This upgrade is considered one of the biggest protocol changes since The Merge in 2022 and will rewrite how blocks are built, priced, and validated on the network.

Glamsterdam bundles multiple Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) aimed at scaling Layer 1 directly, rather than relying solely on rollups. This shift is reflected in the name itself, which pairs 'Gloas', referring to consensus-layer changes, with 'Amsterdam', referencing execution-layer changes.

The upgrade centers around two key proposals: EIP-7732 and EIP-7928. The former introduces Enshrined Proposer-Builder Separation (ePBS), decoupling execution validation from consensus validation. The latter brings Block-Level Access Lists (BALs), enabling parallel disk reads and transaction validation.

For stakers, the shift towards protocol-enforced builder rules represents a significant change in operational risk. Validators and node operators will need to update their clients before mainnet activation to handle the new block-building logic.
