Ethereum's Hegotá Upgrade Focuses on 4 Key Priorities
The Ethereum developers are narrowing down their list of changes for the upcoming Hegotá upgrade. This will be the network's major release in 2027, and so far, they have identified four key priorities: FOCIL (Fork-Choice Enforced Inclusion Lists), shorter block-slot times, native account abstraction, and Layer-1 scaling.
One development group is pushing for a more focused approach to the upgrade. They argue that delivering apps users 'actually feel' should be the main goal of Hegotá. This means prioritizing features that will make a tangible difference in user experience over trying to cram as many changes into the network as possible.
FOCIL is currently confirmed for inclusion, and it aims to strengthen transaction inclusion rules and reduce the risk of selective censorship by block builders or validators. Native account abstraction could also make wallets more flexible, while Layer-1 scaling remains a major strategic question for Ethereum.
