Ethereum's upcoming Hegotá upgrade is making significant strides with the inclusion of account abstraction as a core feature. This development, spearheaded by EIP-8141, aims to provide blockchain accounts with the flexibility of smart contracts.

This means that users will be able to perform batch transactions, pay gas fees in tokens other than ETH, and set up custom security rules. The proposal has been moved from the review stage to the planned stage, but the exact implementation method remains under discussion.

nixo.eth, a core developer, noted that the technical details are not yet finalized. The developers are carefully considering how to integrate account abstraction without disrupting existing infrastructure or creating fragmentation across different layers of the ecosystem.

A key concern is avoiding a split in account abstraction standards between Ethereum's mainnet and layer 2 solutions. EIP-8130, a related proposal, is scheduled to be applied to Base, a prominent layer 2 network, in September.
