Ethereum's Issuance Cut Could Strengthen Institutional Control
Aave founder Stani Kulechov has expressed concerns that a proposed Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) could deepen centralization on the network. The EIP aims to reduce Ethereum's issuance in proportion to the ETH staking ratio, but Kulechov argues this could lead to individual validators exiting while institutional players continue to stake.
Kulechov suggests that as staking rewards decline, smaller validators will be more likely to leave the network due to higher operational costs and less financial flexibility. In contrast, institutions like ETF issuers and exchanges will likely persist in staking for business reasons, even if profits become marginal.
This dynamic would not address centralization concerns but instead consolidate control in the hands of larger players. Kulechov recommends reviewing the impact on individual validators and tax implications before proceeding with the EIP.
