Ethereum's Issuance Policy Sparks Debate Over High Staking Yields vs. ETH Value
The Ethereum Foundation's Protocol cluster has expressed reservations about a proposal to burn part of validators' issuance rewards, suggesting that it belongs in a broader ecosystem process. This decision leaves holders facing a choice between high staking yields and the value of their ETH.
According to the Protocol cluster, Ethereum's issuance policy affects not just stakers but also holders and the network's security budget. The proposal would cut down on dilution for unstaked holders by reducing the number of new ETH issued to validators.
However, proponents of the proposal argue that rising staking participation could increase dependence on custodians and other intermediaries, making Ethereum more vulnerable to capture. Opponents counter that cutting rewards may not improve this composition and could even lead to increased concentration among large providers.
