Ethereum's Privacy Roadmap: Buterin Unveils Practical Steps to Protect User Data
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has proposed a roadmap to enhance user privacy on the Ethereum network without waiting for major protocol upgrades. The proposal focuses on incremental yet impactful steps that developers and wallet providers can implement immediately to protect user data.
The plan centers around shifting default settings in wallets and applications, incorporating features like shielded balances, private token transfers, and address rotation per dApp. This would help remove public links between a user's activity across different apps.
The four critical areas addressed by the roadmap are private onchain payments, partial anonymization within apps, private chain reads, and network-level anonymization. To achieve this, Buterin emphasizes the importance of integrating existing tools like Railgun and Privacy Pools into wallet software.
