Ethereum's Quantum Resistance Plan: Separating Fact from Fright
Ethereum's plan to become quantum-resistant by December 2029 has been misinterpreted as a warning for holders, but it's actually a self-imposed deadline set by the Ethereum Foundation.
The foundation aims to make Ethereum L1 resistant across all three layers: execution, consensus, and data availability. However, this is not a market event, and the decision says nothing about the price of ETH.
Ethereum's current encryption scheme is vulnerable to Shor's algorithm, a quantum method that derives the matching private key from a known public key. But most technical roadmaps place cryptographic relevance in the early to mid-2030s, far beyond today's machines.
The risk does not attach to the coin itself but rather to whether the public key of an address is known. On Ethereum, every account that has ever sent a transaction has exposed its public key, unlike Bitcoin where only old P2PK holdings and reused addresses disclose their public keys.
