Ethereum's Record Leverage Sparks Volatility Fears Amid Institutional Support
Ethereum's derivatives markets are becoming increasingly leveraged as traders rely on borrowed exposure rather than spot capital.
The Estimated Leverage Ratio (ELR) at Binance has reached a record high of 0.65, up from the 2022 bear market range of 0.20-0.30. This reflects expanding Open Interest (OI), despite shrinking ETH reserves on Binance.
The Funding Rates remain close to neutral, indicating that leverage is building without a clear bullish or bearish bias. As a result, small price movements can trigger liquidation cascades larger than normal.
Institutional staking reinforces long-term conviction, with Purpose Investments staking 42,000 ETH worth around $80 million into the Beacon Deposit Contract over three hours. This represents 36.6% of the firm's 114,900 ETH holdings, reducing liquid supply while strengthening network security.
