Ethereum's Roadmap Shifts Focus to Quantum Security and AI-Assisted Verification

Ethereum's long-term plan has undergone significant changes in recent years. Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, shared an update on his 2023 roadmap this week by comparing it to the current 'Strawmap.'

The comparison shows how the network's goals have shifted over time. Some new additions include quantum resistance, which is a growing concern in the blockchain space. Quantum computers pose a threat to existing cryptography, and Ethereum needs designs that can survive such an event.

Ethereum researchers are utilizing STARKs, a cryptographic method for verifying computations without redoing all the work. This helps confirm that code runs as intended. Additionally, AI-assisted formal verification is becoming a larger part of Ethereum's security process. Formal verification mathematically checks that software behaves as intended.
