Ethereum's Rollup Ecosystem Finds a Simpler Way to Ease Computing Burden
Ethereum's growing rollup ecosystem has been putting significant pressure on its nodes' computing power. A recent prototype developed by researcher Csaba Kiraly aims to ease this burden with a simplified design for blob recovery. The reduced design assigns particular blobs to high-custody nodes first, allowing others to receive the recovered data instead of rebuilding it themselves.
According to simulations, the new design resulted in an 11-18x reduction in estimated reconstruction computing work across 1,000-node configurations. This suggests that operators could reduce duplicated work through a smaller change than the full RowDAS networking proposal. The measurements remain limited to simulated networks using real cryptography, and larger simulations and real-network tests are still ahead.
The reduced design retains today's dependence on high-custody nodes and cannot provide the additional resilience offered by the full RowDAS proposal. However, it does offer a possible first step toward implementing the full RowDAS networking channels.
