Ethereum's Staking Rewards Proposal Sparks Heated Debate
A proposal to cap Ethereum's staking rewards has sparked controversy within the community. Developer Jerome de Tychey submitted the draft, EIP-8361, also known as 'Tapered Issuance Burn.' The plan aims to reduce Ethereum's staking issuance to zero at 50% of total supply.
The change wouldn't happen immediately, with a phase-in period of about 18 months and an additional six months of lead time before the network fork activates. This gives the ecosystem roughly two years to adjust.
Aave founder Stani Kulechov has spoken out against the proposal, arguing that capping rewards could introduce unpredictability that scares off serious capital. He also expressed concern for solo stakers and lending markets within DeFi, where staking rewards are a key factor in borrowing $ETH.
