EU Aims for Most Extensive Sanctions Package Against Russia This Autumn
The European Union is planning its most extensive sanctions package against Russia yet, according to EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas. This new package will be the most far-reaching since the start of the war, increasing the number of sanctioned Russian entities by about one-third.
Kallas stated that existing EU sanctions have already cost Russia over €1 trillion ($1.16 trillion) and that this autumn's package will further escalate pressure on Moscow until it ends its war in Ukraine.
The recent July sanctions package targeted more than 100 banks, crypto platforms, energy firms, shadow-fleet actors, and military-industrial entities, adding 218 new listings, the largest batch since the war started.
