EU Aims to Mobilize €10 Trillion in Idle Household Deposits

Share

The European Commission has proposed shifting €10 trillion in idle household bank deposits into investments. This move aims to boost capital for European companies, which currently represent only about 10% of global investable equity.

Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that '€10 trillion of household savings at present remain on bank deposits.' She added that a significant portion of European capital flows outside the continent, much of it into the US and China instead of funding European companies.

The proposed fix centers on the EU's E... initiative, which aims to mobilize idle household savings. If enacted, this move could increase fundraising and token-launch activity in Europe and accelerate crypto adoption across DeFi, DEX, and CEX channels for European issuers.
